Harman was unveiled on Parliament Hill on July 1, 1992. The bronze design created and cast by Mr. Her Majesty is represented as seated as ride the horse Centenial-a gift to the Queen from Canada in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. One example of the House’s role in acknowledging the Queen occurred in October 1987 when Nepean–Carleton MP Bill Tupper introduced a private Member’s motion before the House calling for the installation of a statue of Her Majesty on Parliament Hill to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Queen’s reign.
Ideally, the commemoration would not only represent the Queen herself, but also the House’s own connection with Her Majesty over the past 60 years.
